about the site
autochocador is a fansite dedicated to the Argentinian indie rock band Jaime Sin Tierra. formed in 1996, they released 3 albums, 1 compilation and 1 EP, which are considered some of the most important indie rock releases of their time in the South American independent music scene.
formed in the capital city of Buenos Aires in the mid 90s and later headquartering in the city of San Isidro, the band's initial lineup consisted of Nicolás Kramer on vocals and guitar, Sebastian Kramer on lead guitar, Juan Stewart on bass and Lucas "Lucarda" Cordoviola on drums.
after 2 demo cassettes and a hand-made promotional CD run, the band would go to a farmhouse in the rural town of Chascomus to record what would become their first album on an 8 channel cassette porta-studio.
releasing their debut "El Avión Ya Se Estrelló y Yo Sigo Volando" in 1998 through the inderpendent label "El Club" (later known as Ultrapop) at the tail end of the "movida sonica" era in Argentinian rock, Jaime Sin Tierra later became known for their soft melodies rooted in alt rock and experimenting with synths, drum machines and all kinds of genres; from noise rock to trip-hop, from emo to post-hardcore, they plowed through multiple sounds and released some of the most forward thinking albums of the era, outmatching most of their contemporaries.
a year later, in 1999, they released "Caja Negra", a compilation of b-sides, outtakes, remixes and live renditions of songs from their debut, whilst working on what would become their sophmore effort.
on the turn of the new millenium, they put out "Autochocador" (which is what this website is obviously named after) on their newly founded "Discos Sin Tierra" label. unlike most bands who sometimes fumble their sophmore, Autochocador was the band's best release up until that point, with some fans insisting on it being their best work. they took the route of the more out-there cuts from Caja Negra and use it as reference for their new sound. the album also brought with it an even higher level of success than their debut, sharing festival spots with Sonic Youth, Oasis and Neil Young. it was shortly before the band released the album that Lucarda left the band for unknown reasons, being replaced by Javier Diz, who would stick with the band to its very end.
in 2001, the band went back to Chascomus to begin practicing and writing new songs. it was during this time where tensions grew between Sebas Kramer, Stewart and Nico Kramer. Sebastian talked about how he wanted the follow-up to be more experimental, heavier and fuzzier, but Stewart and Nico didn't share the vision. it was at that point where the two shifted their focus and artistic direction towards the softer cuts from Autochocador. during rehearsals, Sebastian would struggle to keep up with the direction his brother and his friend were headed towards, with him eventually leaving the band in february 8th, 2002, after recording guitars for tracks "Ruta a 80" and "Peces de Colores". shortly after, he moved to Spain to pursue greener pastures, being replaced by Francisco Carosi.
that same year, they released what some consider to be their magnum-opus, "...Lo Que Va a Encandilar es el Día", once again on their own label. this album saw the band reach a bigger success than they had seen previously, appearing in even more music festivals, receiving acclaim from many music critics and spawning their biggest hit, "inquieto", largely due to its use in the movie "nadar solo" by Ezequiel Acuña.
a year after their previous effort, Jaime Sin Tierra released what would be their last piece of music, an EP(?) titled "Tren". the album consists of 6 tracks that push to the song lengths that their previous album closers had. the album has an overall more gloomier sound and the album's packaging was minimal as the band was running low on funds due to the economic crisis that had affected the country in 2001. the title track was the last song they made featuring a guitar part by Sebastian Kramer and the album ends on the beautiful 20 minute long opus "Chascomus".
the band officially broke up in 2003, not long after the release of tren. they've reunited a couple of times after their initial break-up, but they have not made any new music since tren.
this website is meant to be a place for fans to receive the latest news about the band, as well as coming together to discuss their music.
